An activity to find out where the students are at with letter recognition and fine motor/cutting skills. Lots more of these to come! The students were tasked with cutting out the letters and then sorting them out. They were SO focused!

Making shapes, starting to learn the names in French and working on fine motor skills by manipulating the elastics! Included in the bin of geoboards and elastics are cards with patterns for the students to try and replicate. These pictures are of just that, proud kids who successfully replicated the card they were working on!
Today we practiced recognizing the letter and sound on the cards seen on the table. We made fresh play-dough in the morning, so we used that to make the letters as well as our names. On the chalkboards, we practiced writing the letters. Everyone is getting so good at writing letters and knowing the French sounds!
This afternoon, students worked hard at refining their fine motor skills. Necklaces, bracelets and sewing were lots of work but so much fun!
Today, we learned about patterns and how we can find them all around us, we even saw some examples in our classroom. Then we practiced making patterns using images of animals. First, we went through the animals to learn their names in French, some we already knew! Some more practice and we will become experts in making ABABAB patterns! Afterwards, we practiced our scissor skills and cut up some of the extra animal pictures. Yesterday, students worked on their scissor skills and used their creativity in an activity where the end product was going to be a tangram book made by them! They cut out the 7 magical tangram shapes and then arranged and glued them down in any way they chose. They then told me what they made with their shape and I wrote it on their page. The book is now put together and available in the math center along with plastic tangram shapes. Students can recreate what they made or what their friends made!
Once they were finished the activity, they took out their scribble duotangs and practiced their drawing and writing. Their scribble duotangs are an opportunity for them to practice their fine motor skills and draw or write whatever they want! They very much enjoy the freedom of their 'anything book'! |
